UNILAG CONSUMES 6000 LITRES OF DIESEL PER DAY…….ELECTRICAL UNIT

The University has in the last one and half months been experiencing epileptic power supply across all hostels and faculties which is very unusual as a result of constant power supply enjoyed by the institution.
This recent development has led to the cancelling of some lectures due to excessive heat in the lecture theatres and lack of electricity to power the
public address system for effective communication in large classes.
The students on campus have been on the receiving end as they’ve been faced with series of challenges as a result of shortage in power supply because student activities on campus largely depend on electricity such as cooking, laundry, water, reading, research work etcetera.
In a visit to the Electrical Unit of the University of Lagos, it was gathered that a system failure at Ajah power plant led to the shortage in the power supplied to the campus and on most occasion, the electrical unit powers the University with a generator which consumes about 6 000 litres of diesel per day.

It was also revealed that the underground cabling going on right now in the University is another alternative feeder that is expected to supply electricity to the Faculty of Education and not the cause of the power outage.
