The
second edition of the annual Ngozi Agbo memorial lecture was held on the 14th
of June at the boardroom 2 of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The lecture
titled “Becoming a successful campus writer” had in attendance students from
various departments who interacted with the speakers.
Late
Ngozi Agbo was the pioneer editor
of the Campus Life in The Nation newspaper.
The graduate of English Language from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka also
holds a master's degree in the same field from the University of Lagos.
Ngozi
Agbo had a good relationship with undergraduates across the country encouraging
them to become better writers and productive citizens.
The
Guest speaker- Mr Gbenga Omotoso was represented by Mr. Wale Ajetumobi (the
editor of campus life). Mr. Ajetumobi described himself as a protégé and
successor of Ngozi Agbo. He deliberated on the essence of being a writer as
well as a campus journalist. He noted that a campus journalist must be
objective, fair, open and credible when writing and reporting.
He
further emphasized that a campus journalist must ask questions and investigate
issues independently in other to be successful. Other speakers include Tosin
Adesile- former President of The Press Club, Obiajunu Nomso-the former
Secretary and Mr. Ademola, a post
graduate student of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.
The
students learnt a lot during the question and answer session which was aimed at
assisting them in their quest to become successful campus writers.
