The electricity woes being experienced in the University of Lagos may be far from being over, as the Prestigious University Debate was disrupted for about 10 minutes due to fluctuation in the supply of electricity to the Main Auditorium.
On Thursday 20th June, 2013, the Students
Protested against power outage on campus and the Press Club Editorial a fortnight ago titled “Beyond Protest”, cited the inability of the University Authority to give information to students on situation of things as a reason for the protest but in a quick response, few hours after the Publication the Management issued a Press release titled “ Notice on rehabilitation of 132KV/PHCN substation at service and power supply to the University”, explaining why there have been power outage on campus.

The grand finale of the University debate which was held at the Main Auditorium on 3rd July, 2013 was disrupted twice due to the power outage and the nearly-filled 1500 capacity auditorium turned dark and it took 5 minutes to restore power for the continuation of the debate which was eventually won by Mary Adegunloye from the faculty of Social Sciences.
